Barge-type chain-drawn pocket watch made by Hum Brickland. in Oxford, England in the early 18th century.
The movement with beautiful engravings and baluster-shaped pillars (pillars supporting the movement) are carefully crafted down to the smallest detail.
An openworked "guardian deity" is engraved at the base of the balance catch.
At the time, it was believed that evil spirits could enter a watch and cause it to malfunction. To prevent this, English watches of this period customarily had dials like this one engraved.
The dial is silver "champlevé" and the hour and minute hands are "poker and beetle."
Double "paired case" design, typical of English watches of this period
A rare piece from 250 years ago!
